View video from last year's Day of Caring, June 7, 2011
This event serves a dual purpose for United Way. The primary purpose is to match willing volunteers to much needed projects at our Partner Agencies. Another positive outcome of Day of Caring is the community awareness of what can be done to make people's lives a little bit better. This event has steadily grown over the past several years.
About Day of Caring...
What is it?
Day of Caring is an annual event when volunteers perform projects and tasks for the partner agencies which cannot be done due to a lack of funds, manpower, time or understaffing.
What will I do?
The tasks volunteers will perform range from painting, building, recycling, cleaning, computer work, lawn care, sorting clothing and food, reading to children, washing automobiles, etc...
Do I need special skills?
No, not at all. But, if you are skilled in a particular area, please let us know. Our agencies have many detailed needs and you may be just the person to meet the need not met by our other volunteers.
What do I wear?
Volunteers will be given an official Day of Caring t-shirt a few days prior to the event or when they arrive to work that day. Pair this with whatever you don't mind getting dirty.
Where do I go & how long will I work?
Everyone will meet at the McMinn Co. Senior Center, 205 McMinn Ave. in Athens at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, May 9th. A continental breakfast will be provided and volunteers will be given their assignments. At 3:30 PM everyone will meet back at the Senior Center for an ice-cream sundae celebration of our community spirit.
